Left untreated, gum disease can progress and cause major problems within the mouth and throughout the body. The days of painful treatments for gum disease are behind us. Some important facts about periodontal (gum) disease:
- Periodontal (gum) disease is the #1 cause of tooth loss.
- It’s “the silent killer” because harmful bacteria travel beneath the gumline and create “pockets” around your teeth.
- If not treated, the bacteria will cause you to loose bone support, thus causing loose teeth.
- Infected pockets are 4mm or more.
- The number and frequency of gum treatments is dependent upon the patient to follow a specific homecare regiment.
